Relationships between the dynamics of two Talitrus saltator populations and the impacts of activities linked to tourism.

The study considered two areas in Tuscany (Italy) ecologically very similar. One site belongs to a protected natural area and the other one is in front of a camping site. We analysed the effects of human impacts on Talitrus saltator, such as trampling and mechanical cleaning. Population density resulted to be affected. Disappearance and re-colonisation by the population followed the peak season of tourism at the camping site. The results confirm the sensibility of this species and the plasticity in adaptation to different conditions on one hand, and the efficiency of the diversification in resource’s management on the other hand.
